Just Going To Ask

Ok I've messed up my computer 6 times this month,Tired of reinstalling windows. So here goes,I've read alot of posts and tut's in the last 3 days. What I discovered is ...the more I read the more confused I became.
My system has 2 hdd's 1 1,000 gb with windows on it. The 2nd is partitioned 40gb each. The 1st partion is used for back up files. I want to install fedora 11 on the other partion.
But I really don't want Fedora to do anything with the windows hard drive. My trouble has been I think with the boot loader messing up my windows boot.

On my mother board there is a place to select OS/2 is that for a duel boot system?

Hello Hopelesslylost,

If you feel that way, then you should not allow the Fedora installer (aka Anaconda) to install GRUB in the master boot record of the first drive. It will do that by default unless you choose another GRUB boot loader option. I recommend choosing to install GRUB in the first sector of the Fedora boot partition. When you reboot after the installation, the Windows system will boot as though nothing had happened. Then configure the Windows boot loader to boot Fedora. You are using Windows XP, and there is a free utility known as Bootpart that will somewhat simplify the job. There other more manual methods, too. Anyway, here is a HOWTO on the subject...
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=188378
P.S.: I use the XP boot loader to boot XP and several Linux systems. GRUB is wonderful and all that, and I am not afraid of using it in the master boot record. I just happen to prefer NTLoader. For a long time.

P.P.S.: If you have any questions about what you read in the HOWTO, I am willing to try to help. Return here to ask those questions.
