Try and log into a gnome-shell session, when it fails can you file a bugreport against gnome-shell stating that it has missing deps (the cinnamon spec file was based on it).

As for the solution, install gnome

Code:
su
yum install @gnome-desktop

EDIT: That was it. The fast and dirty solution was to chmod 777 the whole folder and all contents, and it popped right up.

You could also update to cinnamon-1.1.3, it's in the repo.

Nice, is it possible to move the bar to the top of the screen instead of the bottom?

Planned for a later version, Clem said.

@leigh: Aw, ok, for now this is a bit too much effort. Thank you for the hints!

Re: Cinnamon guide for F16 (replacement for gnomes-hell)

I just installed the latest 113 version. I was surprised at how well its working. I notice there are 26 issues on the cinnamon link. I guess I haven't used it enough. What I see so far is great. Much better than gnome-s-hell. Everything is nicely laid out. Thanks for compiling this for Fedora!

You can move the bar to the top of the screen (sort of) by:
logging in with gnome, not cinnamon
going to Advanced Settings > Shell Extensions
Turn on the extensions required - you should find all the cinnamon extensions listed
These will now show on the top bar, except for systemMonitor, which is bottom-left on the bottom bar

Re: Cinnamon guide for F16 (replacement for gnomes-hell)

Thanks Leigh!!

I was just directed to this article from Linux Today and spotted your name in the repo. Hence I am now here looking this thread.

I have been begrudgingly using F16-Gnome3 on my laptop after an awful lot of effort to make it usable but have resisted upgrading my main F14 desktop.

Again, many thanks!

Actually, they are separate packages.

Closest I can see at this point in getting it to resemble anything like Gnome 2.

Hope that helps.

Hi Leigh. Thank you for cinnamon. It is great. Between that & gnome-shell-frippery, I'm a happy gnome3 person now. Thanks again. Ken.

Re: Cinnamon guide for F16 (replacement for gnomes-hell)

Thanks for working on the extensions for cinnamon, Leigh. The system monitor I was using with GS isn't one of the ones in Fedora, though. However, I decided conky could do way more than even that one, so I put together a conky panel at the top. It acts like a top panel, windows don't cover it when maximized, and I can add whatever I like to it.
