Question F11 dracut and new 32.9 kernel initramfs

I installed all the pieeces
firmware, perf, kernel parts, dracut dracut-kernel.
Installed the kerenl and blah, nothing
an intrd img and a kernel that stops booting up just after plymouth

So what is the trick to make ff11 initramfs and dracut to boot it?

The dracut man page is like from outer space and has no beef.
No man page for dracut-tools
no initramfs doc or man or mkinitramfs.

F12, F13, F14 happened automagically.

F14?.. you mean development?.. didn't know we'd numbered it

did it die before plymouth started?

do you have it in a VM and can you take a screenshot/scrape? any chance youve increased the logging in the grub kernel line?

add ignore_loglevel and remove rhgb and quiet ?

you might also give this a try

There is always the trac pages and wiki

Have you converted an F11 to use dracut after the fact?
(With LVM / , in VBox, with 32 kernel)

The items you point to in links are just trashy reprints of the man page (an older version at that)
I don't think I need a ton of debugging info as it either works or does not work at this point.

so why not use mkinitrd instead? Mkinitrd is the tool on F11. It should not make a difference to the kernel what boot tool you use. Lilo will probably still work.

Well, it is initrd and it does not work.
Hence, the effort tot make dracut and iniramfs work.

I think it just a broken kernel for f11 (in that it is not complete because of so many differences between the f12, f13 and f11.).
I'll try it again when VBox is updated for newer kernels and /or f13 host) or a newer f11 kerenl that indicates that it will work.

Did you try remaking the initrd? And, if you did, were you doing it as (su - )? Note the minus sign, as you have to be root with all of roots environment settings, otherwise the new initrd will be corrupt.

I assume you did, but just in case.......

The kernel was install -ivh after the other parts and it created the initrd as usual, rather than iniramfs.
When it didn't work I rebooted into an older kernel, rpm -e kernel 32 and then installed it again rpm -ivh, creating the initrd again.
rebooted but still hung as Plymouth leaves the screen to start gdm.

The only think I have thoht of since is
all the parms on the kernel line
and /or
dracut-generic is needed?

So I have a spare f11 setup on another partition that I could use to test. It is 64 bit. Can you send me a link to the download.

Everything is in koji.
You can search by package name in upper right edit box.

I forgot about how onerous installing a kernel out of sequence via rpm it is. I need to refresh myself on how to rpmrebuild and remove the installed firmware and headers for the the running kernel before I install the koji 32.9 kernel. I use the F11 install as a rescue partition for the F12 install due to the fact that my laptop has hibernate issues, it will intermitantly segfault after resuming. I haven't had any catastrophic crashes lately.
