Question Windows 7 not in Grub2 menu

Hi there,

Yesterday I have installed the latest version of Fedora. Fedora works fine, but my windows 7 install is not available on the grub menu. There are lots of topics about Grub2, but not one could help me solve my problem, so maybe someone can help me out.

In the menu there are three options

-Fedora
-Fedora advanced
-Windows recovery

When I enter the command grub2-mkconfig it does find the Windows7 partition.

"Found Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sda2
menuentry 'Windows 7 (loader..." etc etc

However on reboot the windows 7 menuentry is not available in the menu...

What to do?

Cheers,

Julius

Ow, i didnt ment you to reinstall windows, at least not yet.
You probably have ereased the data that was previously stored on your windows partition with this action
If thats the case, i'm sorry.

However, try this:
Code:
su
mkdir /mnt/win
mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/win
echo -e "\n----- Content of hopefull windows partition -----\n"
ls /mnt/win
Does the output of ls show indications that its the windows partition?

Re: Windows 7 not in Grub2 menu

It was a clean installation anyway, so no worries

In what way would mounting the partition help solve the problem?

Re: Windows 7 not in Grub2 menu

In that way that to figure if THAT IS your windows partition, so it has better chances to find the windows boot data upon:
Code:
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.fg
Because sometimes, idk when, it has problems to recognize other OS' if they are not mounted at the time it rebuilds grub.cfg

Re: Windows 7 not in Grub2 menu

OK, I actually already tried it, without result though.

I may have solved the problem in a non-conventional way. I added a piece of code to grub.cfg:

I know this is not the right way, but at least it gives the right result.
