Document icon changes

Hiya,

Earlier this week, after an update (I'm presuming it's an update for now since I didn't touch anything related to it), all of my office documents displayed in Nautilus display a preview of the contents of the document instead of the generic icon set.

I'm wondering if this happened to anyone else, or if I'm just crazy?

If it was indeed a change, how would one revert the icons back to the generic ones?

I'm running F17 with LibreOffice as the office suite if it can be of any help. I have tried right-clicking on the files and then clicking on the icon to change the image but no luck.

Thanks!

I hadn’t noticed (I rarely use word-processors etc.), but after searching for some LibreOffice files, yes you’re right. It’s only OpenDocument files though, not RTF or MS Office files. Also, clicking them now loads LibreOffice again, instead of GNOME Documents.

I’ve had a look through the Nautilus preferences and DConf, and looked for packages with names containing “thumbnailer”, but to no avail. My guess is that this is something to do with GNOME Documents though. Personally I like thumbnails instead of icons – do you generally dislike thumbnails, or is it just the LibreOffice files that bother you? If it’s a general dislike of thumbnails, you can turn them off in Nautilus preferences (in the Preview tab, change the drop-downs to “Never”). I’m afraid I don’t know of a type-specific control.

Re: Document icon changes

Thank you very much, the Nautilus preview setting did just the trick!

The main reason I disliked the thumbnail previews was mainly because of the spreadsheets. Some of them were more square than the default paper-like rectangle, causing my ocd to kick in because everything wasn't uniform
