you probably need to be root, type 'su -' to become root.

visudo is for editing /etc/sudoers and nothing else

Firestarter was a good program in its time, but has not been maintained for a few years now. Many of the kernel tuning parameters it installs are no longer used or have changed names/locations (such as ip_conntrack, which was replaced by nf_conntrack many kernel releases ago). It does not handle IPv6. You would be better off at this point using a different firewall GUI.

Furthermore, firestarter has been discontinued in Fedora (it is not in the F12 repos), but is still in the F10 repos if you are absolutely desperate to use it.

Assuming you do get firestarter installed, you can use gedit or another editor (as root) to edit any of the script or config files in /etc/firestarter, although that is only recommended if you have substantial expertise in iptables. There was no file /etc/sbin/firestarter (I recall the setup files fairly well).

Yeah, I agree, does firestarter do anything that system-config-firewall doesn't?

On the basic configuration side, no, system-config-firewall (based on Lokkit) is quite alright.

Firestarter did more behind the scenes with a "security first" approach to setting kernel netfilter parameters - a fair bit tighter than the Fedora defauts. But Fedora has tightened its defaults over recent releases, so that's not such a problem anymore.

Firestarter's logging configuration was first rate (for a desktop) - I still use parts of it.

The main advantage of using Firestarter was the real-time GUI displaying alerts (extracted from /var/log/messages). It also permitted on-the-fly reconfiguration, if a bit simplistic (e.g. whenever a port was opened, whether inbound or outbound, it permitted TCP and UDP together - that couldn't be changed unless made permanent, done by manually editing setup scripts).
