Sound issues Lenovo Thinkpad z61t

So right to the problem...it started out where I could barely hear the audio while streaming from vidzi.tv. I tried adjusting it in the alsamixer and it got louder but now it's distorted. I tried pulseaudio but that just increased the distortion. I can't seem to figure it out. I've been trying for 3 days to get it to work. Please help me.

Hi, please indicate which version of Fedora (24/25) and also the Desktop Environment you are using (GNOME, KDE, MATE, XFCE etc.)

Re: Sound issues Lenovo Thinkpad z61t

I've kept researching this issue and found a similar bug from fedora 11 that was labeled Closed Wontfix back in 2010...here's the link to the bug report i found.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=500434

my sound cards subsystem id is identical to the one of the person who filed the bug way back then. I'm going to continue searching...

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
please feel free to re-open the bug as you can still produce it with F25. It wasn't closed by a human but was closed by Skynet's Forefathers because the version of Fedora it was filed against became EOL.

Re: Sound issues Lenovo Thinkpad z61t

hate to say this but the bug is unrelated.
OP for bug has no sound while you have distorted sound.

so can you show (as per bug reporter did)
Code:
lspci -nn |grep -i audio
also I would like you to upload an image of your alsamixer levels to a image site
---imgur.com allows anon uploads

rescale the image to 800x600 please

try
Code:
alsamixer -c1
alsamixer -c0
c0 is likely to be your hdmi card but I am guessing based on past experiences

EDIT

if your model at top of screen shows AD1984, there is a options mod we can do for your intel card
here is the ref but I will update you how to use /etc/modprobe.d when I see your screenshot

AD1984

Re: Sound issues Lenovo Thinkpad z61t

alright, here's the results of lspci -nn | grep -i audio

Code:
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:27d8] (rev 02)
and here are 2 screenshots of alsamixer cause i have a card at c0 and c29 the one at 29 is the Thinkpad Console Audio Control.

alsamixer -c0

alsamixer -c29

http://imgur.com/a/DpTdY

I don't know what the thinkpad card does since I can't adjust the volume level in alsamixer.

Re: Sound issues Lenovo Thinkpad z61t

as suspected your intel model is AD1981

that means we can try, and hopefully remove distortion with model=thinkpad as hinted above
here is one way to do it

open terminal as a local user, assuming gnome you can try
Applications -> System tools -> terminal

copy and paste all of my code box into your terminal, when terminal is open
use mouse to click on edit and choose paste

Code:
sudo echo 'options snd_hda_intel model=thinkpad' > /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf
reboot and test sound.

2) your speakers may be crappy so lower volume a little as poor speakers do cause distortion
and your volumes are already at max

3) you have beep (pcspeaker) at max, which some people find annoying.
holding backspace in a text editor or terminal should be enough for you to hear it
if it annoys lower its volume in alsamixer please

OR arrow to it in alsamixer and press the m key to mute it

4) I don't know anything about that audio console controller.
Do you use it?
any link on how to use it?

Re: Sound issues Lenovo Thinkpad z61t

Thanks for the help, that fixed the level of sound so I could hear it, but the speakers are so crappy I can't really stand it so I'm gonna get some USB speakers. Oh and that other wireless card, I have no idea what it is or how to use it. I just found it there lol.

Re: Sound issues Lenovo Thinkpad z61t

laptop speakers can be poor for sound range, my old ASUS F3Sr had really tinny and oddly offset speakers so I did the same and bought USB speakers. they didn't last more than a couple of years before they broke. I never bothered replacing them and just used some reasonable quality sony in-ear headphones i still have instead when watching anything other than a 30 second youtube clip or listening to music.

i miss the speakers from an hp nx9105 which outlasted the newer ASUS (in my ownership, i gave the ASUS away when I got a replacement Fujitsu Lifebook in 2015). the hp was a heavy, chunky Sherman Tank of a notebook with enough depth to include forward firing JBL speakers that really delivered serious volume and bass without distortion. it was near enough 2" thick with the lid closed

the fujitsu has reasonable speakers on par with modern led tv sets, again headphones are better though.
