Mac formatted disks

Hi, I was thinking of posting on the Apple side, but I guess the answer might be a little less condescending here.

I have hard time writing to every and any USB disk created on a Mac (regardless of OSX version). I change permissions to 777 in Finder, and have no problems reading and copying the files. However, writing to these disks from Fedora 25 is impossible, although Fedora shows that permissions are set to 777.

What might be the remedy?

Jack

What filesystem are you trying to access? Maybe there is a lack of support for writing but you can still read...

Re: Mac formatted disks

I'm not sure what you mean by "USB disk". USB keys? Or external drives? USB keys always seem to mount read-only, I try not to use them these days. Who owns the thing? CD into the thing and post the output of
Code:
ls -lh
I've also had problems mounting drives on computers with different userids 501, 1001 stumped me for a while.

Re: Mac formatted disks

This is on GNOME Shell with an automounted HFS+ volume? If so, I think it's a very old bug. I filed this bug report over a year ago, no response.

Re: Mac formatted disks

Can you make a directory?

If you can make a directory on the disk (as root), then you can set the permissions on that directory to your user.

Yes it's possible as a work around. But maybe better is to recursively change owner on the mount point itself, which then changes ownership for all files on the stick. The problem with this bug is not just that I can't write to macOS created hfs+ sticks, I can't read documents already on them (from macOS) since the permissions are simply wrong.
