16-bit color vs. 32-bit color depth

Is there any performance gain by switching to 16-bit color from 32-bit?

well i personally havent seen any real benifet in basic GUI applications.. but as a not 32bit colour depth is using a whole lot more of your frame buffer to produce the image.. so ...

not that it really matters tho as your frame buffer is probably like 64meg plus anyway.. but technically.. a 16bit depth should be less memory and process intensive. :P

Yes, but on today's hardware, the resolution is much more important. 32-bit looks so much better, though.

16 bits will be faster than 32 bits ... on any hardware .... but todays hardware is so fast you are unlikely to notice any significant difference ... but yes 16 bits is faster ... and for me 16 bit colour is more than sufficient

I prefer every shade that exists and then some. I'm thinking of purchasing the ultra-high end workstation graphics card from ATI that costs 1500 so that I can display one trillion colors (they claim it can done). Right now, I'm stuck at a billion, and knowing that a trillion is out there waiting for me...

But I MUST have 1 Trillion colors!!! Eh, who cares. It's so ridiculous, seeing as how I spend most of my time at the shell anyway.
