Fedora 25 on ASUS X99Delux motherboard

Anybody running F25 on ASUS X99Delux motherboard?

I'm having problems with booting. Very often I have to boot it few times to get it started.
Can't get it to dual boot with windows 10. After installing windows 10 on disk 0 I can add Fedora on disk 1 but when I reboot I can only go to windows.
At the moment I physically disconnect windows HD to boot to fedora.
I wonder if such (2 HDs) configuration is supported?

Tom

Re: Fedora 25 on ASUS X99Delux motherboard

have you updated F25 since installing? there was a bug with the UEFI shim in the release ISO that affected dualboot systems they released a fix for to the updates repository. If not, please try and see if it resolves the issue.

the update will install a new shim and rebuild GRUB.

Re: Fedora 25 on ASUS X99Delux motherboard

Thanks for you reply. Do you mean the ISO image that I used to install fedora or the fedora installation itself? The ISO image is a few month old probably 3 month old. But the installation is up to date. I run ding update every day. I have two older ASUS MOB base PC and they are working very well. It's this one that fedora has problems with.

Re: Fedora 25 on ASUS X99Delux motherboard

i meant the installation itself not the ISO. If it has been updated the fixes should already be applied in that case.

are the older ASUS boards running legacy BIOS?

Re: Fedora 25 on ASUS X99Delux motherboard

Based on the output of dmidecode atlas one of them does not support EUFI. See below:

X99 is configured to use EUFI BIOS. The other two did not present any issues during installtion.

Re: Fedora 25 on ASUS X99Delux motherboard

all three of those mainboards have EFI (UEFI firmware).

With the X99 Delux, it should be possible to open the UEFI boot menu and choose to boot from the second drive without disconnecting the W10 drive. Check the X99 Deluxe manual for the appropriate Function Key to use. My ASUS uses F8.

Additionally, when installing to a machine with an existing OS regardless of the number of attached drives it is better to use custom partitioning and direct the installer to the EFI partition on the main drive. you'd assign the moint point /boot/efi (making sure format is not ticked). That way GRUB2 menu would appear and you could boot either OS.

Re: Fedora 25 on ASUS X99Delux motherboard

I understand that it's possible to choose boot drive from the menu at boot time. But this not an option that I would like to use since I don't want to go to bios setup every time I boot. The windows 10 disk has EFI portion if I remember correctly and accordingly to all the instructions that I have found about dual booting fedora installer was supposed to find it and use it but it did not.Well I'll try to create a new ISO image may be it's been updated and try to install again.

Thanks - Tom
