LibreOffice 5.3 has a new ribbon style interface option

The latest development build of LibreOffice has an experimental feature which when enabled allows users to switch from traditional toolbars to a ribbon style UI. At present it's in the very early stages of development so some functionality and icons are missing plus it doesn't scale well to the screen.

When it is finished, users will be able to choose which toolbar style they want from the view menu. the top menu bar is also hidden until you click on the libreoffice icon top left and enable it.

Its good news. Ribbons make using LibreOffice KISS* compatible.

*KISS = keep it simple, stupid

Nice! But where is the much awaited multithreading? Still single core, single threaded...
OpenCL still only for Calc.

I guess Document Foundation is not at the slightest worrying about the patent thing...

Dunno about Fedora will make fuss about this...

Re: LibreOffice 5.3 has a new ribbon style interface option

5.3 is very much a beta. The ribbon interface needs a fair bit of work to be done. I do hope they are not going to follow the MS path and disable keyboard shortcuts (they are disabled at the moment)

Re: LibreOffice 5.3 has a new ribbon style interface option

I switched to wps.com's linux versions. Its what libreoffice has to match for an interface. And keyboard shortcuts

It won't. The earliest you are likely to see it is F26. Fedora do not upgrade between branches of LibreOffice during a release cycle of the operating system.

we are all aware of the fact you use WPS office leslie. libreoffice has keyboard shortcuts too (shock horror!) as did the packages it was forked from. end of discussion as regards comparing the two.

This might be interesting for those following this thread:
https://blog.documentfoundation.org/...-themuffin.pdf

It's some research that concludes that a "one size fits all" approach may not be the best way forward for a general purpose tool like a word processor.

That's very old fashioned thinking.
The current model is that it's holographic nested virtualities of turtles, all the way down.

mmmm muffins...

It's refreshing that they are giving the end user ultimate choice rather than ramming one or other interface down their throats. one size definitely doesn't fit all.

Hah can't say I use Libre too often anymore with Google sheets being a thing. I do pop it open whenever I need to view a CSV for work though!

All subsequent posts relating to WPS have been removed. You were asked not to carry on posting about it here. Also the thread seems to have run it's course
