Need a GNU version of AutoCAD for Fedora

I need a GNU equivalent of AutoCAD for Fedora which will function as closely as possible to the real AutoCAD

This is for training purposes to take up work using AutoCAD

If anyone know which GNU or Open Source program most resembles AutoCAD commands and functionality, please advise
thanks in advance

Re: Need a GNU version of AutoCAD for Fedora

This has always been a sour spot for linux, as most CAD apps in linux land dont offer 3d support.
Best off dual booting windows or try running autocad in WINE.

Re: Need a GNU version of AutoCAD for Fedora

Do ANY of the below resemble AutoCAD in commands and functionality?

FreeCAD
OpenSCAD
OpenCASCADE
AutoQ3DCAD

specifically what I mean is,
in AutoCAD you press p for point, L for a line, etc.

I need a program that matches these command keys, if such a program exists.
Thanks in Advance

No, AutoCAD is an awful, awful program.

FreeCAD is good and is probably what you need. Here are some examples of what you can do with FreeCAD:

I don't care which program is good or bad

The job must be done in AutoCAD, a $4000 program which I do not own

So I need to train on something as close as possible to AutoCAD

in other words, having the same commands and keys and functionality.

This has nothing to do with which program is better

Read the OP

Re: Need a GNU version of AutoCAD for Fedora

I would humbly suggest DraftSight. I don't have technical background but it looks like it shares many commands and key shortcuts with AutoCAD. Not all of them probably. One thing I noticed is the view, especially the 3D view, such as SW orientation is not readily available in DraftSight but can be obtained via some tinkering.

I hope this helps.

I'm confused, if you need to train on and use AutoCAD, I guess pony up and by the program.

If you need an end product from a CAD program, then again, I would suggest Google SketchUp. You can load Google Chrome on most Linux distros, and have access to Google applications. Most of the architects I know, have moved to SketchUp from AutoCAD.

I would train on something easily accessible (SketchUp) and if you find yourself at a company with a different CAD program - make the transition

Re: Need a GNU version of AutoCAD for Fedora

I have found DraftSight to be the most complete and competent 'free' cad app available. Googling will get numerous comparisons of Autocad vs DraftSight.
I suggest you look at some of them and see if it suits your purpose and it costs nothing to try it, or use it indefinitely..

Yes, you're confused.

I am going to go to a job and they need me to use AutoCAD.
I don't have $ 4000 for AutoCAD so need to prepare on a CAD program as close as possible to AutoCAD.

OK, practicing on software with no fee.

I would again offer Google SketchUp or FreeCAD.

I got this installed and activated but apparently only the windows version can be used during the trial period; thanks anyway.

Re: Need a GNU version of AutoCAD for Fedora

if you are still studying your degree or doctorate you can get a free 3 year license but you need to also be running MS Windows - http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...12&id=18270111

I doubt it would run on WINE.
