Linus is digging the new Chromebook Pixel.

Hints about putting Linux on it

Re: Linus loves Chromebook Pixel

Seems to run Linux OK simultaneously with ChromeOS - not sure how exactly ??

The i5 CPU has been throttled back to 1.8GHz, probably to reduce power and thermal issues., but apparently it can still get pretty hot.

I'd love one but my wallet does not agree. I could settle for the $249 Samsung device though...

One can always build one.

The case can be 3D printed and with a little finish it could look good too.

4GB RAM, 32(64)GB storage and dual-core i5 @ 1.8Ghz. Well, ok, I also get an 'awesome' 13" screen.

For that price?!

Is it really official or is the launch planned for 1st April..

Cool Re: Linus loves Chromebook Pixel

One might think.

Tell you the truth, this little fellow may be pretty pedestrian for the low-rez screen and all ... but ...

It was less money, came with 4g RAM, a 500g HDD, DVD +/- R/W, and an i5. But then again, it does have those nasty cooling vents and an itty-bitty fan in it.

I - am - just - soooo low-rent.

It's really embarrassing! <....>

Re: Linus loves Chromebook Pixel

I read somewhere (by someone who admitted they were just guessing) that they thought the strategy was to price it high to limit its distribution and gather feedback. Whether that makes sense or not, I have no idea--googling, trying to find the article now, but can't.

As for the portage, I was considering one when I decided I wanted an Ultrabook. I wound up going for the Asus though, after reading some reviews. As it's been months, if not a year, I have no memory of what I read that decided me.

My hope is that there will be enough interest in this to prompt some other OEMs to put a decent screen on their cheaper laptops - I am getting tired of being able to see the pixels.
