Windows a Dead End?

Did the founder of Acer just describe Windows as a dead end?

Re: Windows a Dead End?

Shin believes that Dell's privatization aims at a flexible transformation without needing to concern itself with media and market analysis, but Microsoft's involvement and its Windows-oriented advice may lead Dell to head into a dead end. However, the outcome will still depend on Dell's future strategy, Shih added what i think there saying is Windows within Dell maybe at a Dead End

He's not the only one, either; from this article we read the following:

Quote:
The head of Valve says the company is working to develop for Linux, calling Microsoft’s Windows 8 a “catastrophe” that will lead product manufacturers to abandon the platform.
Quote:
Earlier this year, Stardock CEO Brad Wardell wrote an article for Kotaku about Windows 8′s issues. Wardell called the new operating system a “usability nightmare.” If other PC developers feel similarly, perhaps they’d be more than willing to follow Newell’s lead to the Linux platform.
It's a great time to be a Linux user!

Re: Windows a Dead End?

Not knowing what's in the guy's brain, I'm thinking that MS insistence of Secure Boot may limit appeal of some users, plus pushing Windows-8 may limit Dell sales.

OTOH, consider that Bill Gates funded Apple during the bad times and they certainly benefited.

More importantly, consider that Acer and Dell are major competitors and any advantage to one is likely panned by the other.

Not necessarily. In a nutshell, he said that the loan that Microsoft gave to Dell would prevent them from coming up with bright ideas.
