Protocol Analyzer

Hello guys..

I have to implement a Protocol Analyzer using Java as an assignment for a subject. I don't have any idea as to where to start it from. Can somebody please help me? I've Netbeans 6.7 installed on my Fedora 11.

@pete, let's be fair now. I don't think the OP was asking us to do their homework, just looking for a place to start. There's a difference.

If, after having wireshark installed, the OP had typed, I installed it, what do you do with it. plz guide me stepbystep, URGENT!!!, I'd be be inclined to agree.

However, my impression is quite different--as you can see, once given a starting point, the OP is working it out on their own.

To Shardharmit, forgive me for discussing you as if you weren't there. It's just that, unfortunately, we do get many posts like, I have to XYZ for assignment, someone plz guide me step by step, thx, with a thread title of URGENT!!!!!

So, many of us who have been around awhile, tend to get cranky when we see homework/assignment or something similar. However, as mentioned in this post, my impression is that you have asked a question that is reasonable, without expecting anyone to do your assignment for you.

(You'll find, if you stick around the forums a lot, that Pete is actually one of the nicest, and most helpful people here, though no doubt he'll be annoyed with me for revealing that.)

Thanks guys for the support. But my laptop totally crashed on Sunday. And now I am waiting for HP guys to produce a huge bill for new motherboard. So I am not gonna be able to work upon my project for next few days till I get my laptop back.

Hi all. I finally got my laptop back. I've done some research. I need jpcap package to capture the packets across network. I downloaded it from http://netresearch.ics.uci.edu/kfuji.../download.html. The problem is that it works perfectly fine in Netbeans under Windows. But in Linux, I can't get it. It also shows an error while installation for JDK version. So I did

yum insall jpcap

I can't import the jpcap package in netbeans in Linux. Can someone know what the reason maybe? Thanks
