rhythmbox won't show iPhone
I have a desktop machine running up-to-date Fedora 16 where the iPhone 4 just doesn't show up in rhythmbox. I have to laptops, also running Fedora 16 where it shows up just fine. One laptop is 32-bit, one is 64-bit, the desktop is 64-bit.
I can't seem to figure out what the difference is. I've waded through lists of packages until I have the desktop machine configured with everything the 64-bit laptop has (plus some Perl packages that I can't imagine could cause an issue). I deleted my old libimobiledevice and rhythmbox configurations in ~/.config and ~/.gconf.
On the desktop, the iPhone is recognized and shows up in nautilus and shotwell. Only rhythmbox is not seeing it. My google-fu seems to be running low because I can't find anyone else who's posted about this.
Any ideas?

Re: rhythmbox won't show iPhone
At this time, the issue might be resolved.
On Rhythmbox, edit->plugins, make sure Portable Players - Ipod is checked.

Re: rhythmbox won't show iPhone
Out of the box fc18, using rhythmbox does not show connected iphone 4
The portable player has been checked already!..
If we want normal users to start dumping the expensive OSs for their computer/laptop...Things got to work!
Think of the normal user who does not want to know how things work..they just want it to work..

Re: rhythmbox won't show iPhone
I'm torn. Should I sling some, 'normal people didn't bother buying apple crap,' or normal people don't bother responding to 7month old posts? Well without something constructive ie.,

I got a Sansa Clip too. I mainly use the thing for a bug because it's so tiny and I can clip it to curtains or most anything.

Think of the poor Mr. Normal User who is suckered into buying an overpriced phone with an apple on it. Not only can't he get it to work well with Linux, he has the misfortune of not really even owning anything he puts on his phone, be that contact details, photos, or music. That's because the manufacturer has decided that since Mr. User is stupid enough to pay for his overpriced phone, he's also stupid enough to agree to the terms of use of his overpriced phone without even reading them.

I am really impressed with this little Sansa Clip+
I had an iPod Nano, that lasted about a year. An iShuffle that lasted about a year. Then my MacBook died, taking all my iMusic with it - the iGenius's said to buy another MacBook and restore my music... pass.
So a couple years later, I have about half my CD music collection ripped into OGG Vorbis and a Sansa Clip+ that has been beat and scratched on many hiking trails. The little clip broke off a couple of months ago, and seriously - it's scratched and been through it with 2 plus years of hiking and use - it keeps going
About the only draw back to the Sansa player, the ear buds are crap. I am using my iBuds, the only thing that survived my iMusic purge

If you're including me in that, you got a few things coming...
A: I didn't spend a fortune on mine. Got it gently used for (roughly) $150.
B: I've been administrating PCs since I was 12. Not just using them.
C: Jailbreaking is perfectly legal and so is accessing the filesystem (for non-commercial use) i.e. they don't want you selling the jailbroken device.
Just keep your trolling up. If I can take down a hacker that hacked all sorts of celebs, you're no sweat.

You might have some luck with MediaFire for something like that. I use it, it's great.
(Sheesh, talk about some mood swings. )

Been impressed with my iPhone. I've taken care of it and it's lasted. I also had a Creative Zen V. Screen stopped working, and I was left with the earbuds that I use occasionally.
On the Sana Clips, get the cheaper ones for $20. If they're gonna go through all that abuse, might as well get your money's worth.

Hahahaha.., hey clean up your temp dir, it's full of porn again.
Wife and I have been tossing her Zen back and forth for nearly five years now. I might grab another just for flac and ogg support but... well there's plenty to do before that becomes necessary. Poor FM radio is my only real po.

Just cleaned my temp yesterday. I honestly have no clue why you would think I was watching porn.
