Question Installing Fedora Core 4 (x86) on Vmware Workstation 5.0 on Windows XP

Hi,

May I know whether is it possible to install 64-bit Fedora (x86) on a AMD64 system which is running Vmware Workstation 5.0 on Windows XP?

Thanks

Why not ?

Only take care about some points which specifed on http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc4/errata/

do you want to do dule boot system or now onwards wants to use Linux only.

If dule boot than take care at the time of Hardik partiion ..

all the best.
Have a nice time

If you mean installing the FC4 as a Guest system on the XP Host, then I don't see why not.

I have done exactly this, except that my system is i86, not the 64-bit version. Assuming your hardware is 64-bit, this should be just the same.

AFAIK even the 64bit version of VMWare5 has only 32bit guest OS support.
In general, VMWare is not a binary emulator (such as bochs), as a result, in-order to run a 64bit guest OS, you'll require a 64bit host OS. (And a 64bit capable CPU)

Cheers,

ok, maybe i should clarify:

i m currently having a amd64 system running on windows xp and i have vmware workstation 5.0

i would like to create a guest host (virtual machine) of 64bit fedora within windows xp using vmware.

i guess from the last response, it's not possible. am i correct?

No.
No even in theory.
Taken from vmware.com:
Code:
The only desktop virtual machine software that runs on both Windows and Linux host operating systems, and supports certain 64-bit host OSs and 64-bit extended processors
Future VMware versions will be able to run 64bit Linux on 64bit Windows XP/2K3/Longhorn, but VMware 5 is limited to 32bit guest operating systems.

Cheers,
