Re: How many pc's do you own and with what OS?

4 Towers (Centos 7 - main rig, FreeBSD 10 - learning, Fedora 21 - media center, and a hodge-podge of 8 different linux distros on the fourth for testing purposes), an iMac (Snow Leopard) for Music creation, a laptop (Centos 7), an old ipad, a Galaxy Note Tab, a Note 4 phone and an old Dalmation iMac with Mac OS 9. NOT planning on buying any more for a LONG time! One tower is home built, the laptop and one tower are from Zareason, and the two remaining towers are Dells. The old Dalmation iMac was found in a trash heap but still works fine... go figure.

Re: How many pc's do you own and with what OS?

1. Main machine is a laptop, Acer i5 8GB SSD running Scientific Linux 7.1 (Came with W7)
2. Secondary machine is a laptop, Lenovo Celeron also running Scientific Linux 7.1 (Came with Vista)

The remainder are no longer in use:

3. A NEC laptop, bought second hand, that is occasionally useful as it has a floppy drive. (Came with W95)

4. Tower built at a computer fair. Runs some version of RedHat but hasn't been used for a long time.
5. Tower assembled by me. Has a tape drive and needed to have its OS built for it, but also no longer in use.
6. Tower/desktop running a Pentium 90 (complete with floating point bug). This was running Smoothwall and acting as a dial up interface. It was originally W3.11 until it got my first Linux in 95.

7. Atari 1040ST (Still working)
8. Amstrad 464 running CPM. Its 3" floppy drive was very reliable.

9. Home built machine running a Signetics 2650 CPU with a home made OS.

When I was a kid the first computer our family had was an Amstrad 6128 with an internal floppy drive. They were indeed very reliable. The drive belt perished a few years back and I replaced it. Apart from that it still works absolutely fine. My Brother has it at present. Even the monitor is still going strong. We also used a tape player connected via an audio cable (for some games) and a serial mouse kit. The mouse plugs in to a daughter board slotted into the expansion port on the rear of the keyboard.

My first experience of programming was with that machine. The games in the user manual and some magazine features got me started.

Yes, the Amstrad was a good machine for learning to program, even if it was BASIC.
I recall a Sunday afternoon where I gave a programming course for a local Amstrad computer club. Had about a dozen people (from 8 to 80) engrossed for a couple of hours while we developed an analogue clock. I think the most valuable lesson they learnt was not to be afraid of the inevitable bugs.

Re: How many pc's do you own and with what OS?

1 HP ZBook 17G2 - F23
2 HP ZBook 17G2 - F23
3 HP G72 (They didn't call this one a Pavillion) Fedora twenty-something last time I turned it on.
4 HP X2-13 Windows 8.1 (Dockable bluetooth keyboard.)
5 HP X2-10 Windows 8.1 (Dockable keyboard) This one ran a Fedora live USB without any drama.
(I was up to eight but sold three of them over the past few months.)

How many do I own? or how many do I use on a regular basis.

I own a few dozen at least.. Some I need to donate to the antique museum (like the ohio scientific challenger 3)..

But in use, I have 6 currently.

Re: How many pc's do you own and with what OS?

I've probably answered somewhere before in this thread .... but I currently have 10 "PCs" ... I think. Not all in use, of course, and some have been collecting dust for quite a while.

Now a better question would be, "How many PCs do you actually need?"

Re: How many pc's do you own and with what OS?

Five at last count: My desktop machine running whatever the Kubuntu LTS version is. A Lenovo Thinkpad with the latest Ubuntu Gnome edition. A Lenovo laptop with Windows 10, a Mac Mini with the latest OS X and a desktop PC in the loft with eComStation (OS/2 Warp 4.52) installed, but not used.

Re: How many pc's do you own and with what OS?

I own:
- 4 Windows 10 machines, 1 is a file server and 4 channel DVR, the other 3 are thin clients for use with CentOS/XEN.
- 2 CentOS-6 boxes (1 house & time server, the other a workstation)
- 1 XENforCentOS 6.4 with 12 CentOS 5,6,7 workstations.(office consolidation) and growing.

I would like to get back with Fedora but can't find any bootable workstation ISO"s for XEN virtualization. It has been about 5 years since I last used Fedora. Meanwhile I am going to look for bootable Ubuntu ISO's for virtualization.

Re: How many pc's do you own and with what OS?

I have two Computers: One running the 32 bit Fedora 24 on the main drive, with Red Hat Linux 4.7 on an external modular hard drive; the other computer is an apple with mac OS X El Capitan. The Linux Computer used to have Windows XP on the main drive, but I wiped it (http://forums.fedoraforum.org//forum...lies/frown.gif

Re: How many pc's do you own and with what OS?

Situation is more or less the same here.

Primary one with CentOS7. Second machine with CenOS7.
Sharp MZ-800 with integrated tape in the closet. I had it turned on with projector few times, it's hilarious seeing Flappy on a 2,7 meter diagonal.

And PS4 Pro, which I actually use most of the time. Not exactly productive machine yeah, but PC underneath it is, running FreeBSD.
Not that the BSD part would be somewhat noticeable though. Matters not, it works great.
