Unhappy Windows share

I'm unable to connect to my windoz PC, and therefore can't get access to shared files when I use my fedora laptop... Had the same problem with Ubuntu, but I had many other problems with it so I installed Fedora, solving all my problems except this one... Am I missing something, or is it my computer? At scool I can acces shares easily with the school computer (I installed ubuntu on it) but the method doesn't work at home...

Re: Windoz share

Have you tried to reach it by IP, e.g. use nautilus and open the "smb//a.b.c.d" location?
Also, are the samba client ports allowed by the firewall?

Re: Windoz share

I tried turning off the firewall on my Win PC and I still can't reach it. It responds to pings, other than that, I don't know how to reach it by IP, I've only started using Linux this fall...

Re: Windoz share

What is the ip address of your windows pc, and your linux box.

Second. Paste the output of

smbclient -L Insert_IP_Address_Of_Windows_PC_here

Re: Windoz share

I assume you have a router which will firewall off your home network. In that case you should be free to open port 445 on your windows desktop. And if i remember that one needs to be open for shares on a personel PC. Though i might be mistaken. otherwise check your virus vendor. they might be dropping the traffic
