Unhappy Can't configure Wacom Ultrapad

Hello fellow Fedora users.

I've been struggling for 3 days getting my Wacom Ultrapad to work, but without any sucess. I'm hoping somebody on this forum might have experience or any idea to this problem. I've searched the web but I haven't found any relevant information regarding to Fedora 12. Only some similar problems with other distributions but unfortunately those didn't help. I've also searched the guides and forum posts on "The Linux Wacom Project" without any succes.

The standard hal and X server self config doesn't detect it. So I tried with creating a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Basically I took the self generated xorg.conf file and added the appropriate entries:

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
	Identifier "X.org Configured"
	Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
	InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
	InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
	InputDevice "stylus" "SendCoreEvents"
	InputDevice "eraser" "SendCoreEvents"
EndSection

section "InputDevice"
  Driver "wacom"
  Identifier "stylus"
  Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
  Option "Type" "stylus"
  Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
  Driver "wacom"
  Identifier "eraser"
  Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
  Option "Type" "eraser"
  Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4"
EndSection
X starts as normal but the Wacom board doesn't work, my /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows this:

Code:
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
(**) Option "SendCoreEvents"
(**) stylus: always reports core events
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "stylus" (type: STYLUS)
(**) Option "StopBits" "1"
(**) Option "DataBits" "8"
(**) Option "Parity" "None"
(**) Option "Vmin" "1"
(**) Option "Vtime" "10"
(**) Option "FlowControl" "Xoff"
(WW) stylus: unable to read ISDV4 * data after 3 tries at (19200)
(WW) stylus: unable to read ISDV4 % data after 3 tries at (38400)
(EE) Couldn't init device "stylus"
(II) UnloadModule: "wacom"
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
(**) Option "SendCoreEvents"
(**) eraser: always reports core events
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "eraser" (type: ERASER)
(**) Option "StopBits" "1"
(**) Option "DataBits" "8"
(**) Option "Parity" "None"
(**) Option "Vmin" "1"
(**) Option "Vtime" "10"
(**) Option "FlowControl" "Xoff"
(WW) eraser: unable to read ISDV4 * data after 3 tries at (19200)
(WW) eraser: unable to read ISDV4 % data after 3 tries at (38400)
(EE) Couldn't init device "eraser"
(II) UnloadModule: "wacom"
I checked the manual to the tablet, seeing that the baudrate defaults to 9600. But the driver seems to ignore that option and give the same error message as above. Although the tablet is capable of communicating at 19200 bps, so I'm not sure if this is the cause of the problem either.

To verify that the hardware is responding and its on /dev/ttyS0, I executed # xxd /dev/ttyS0 and while moving the stylus over the tablet is see that data is incoming.

The software versions I'm running are:

xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.4-1.fc12.i686
xorg-x11-drv-wacom-0.10.4-1.fc12.i686
kernel-PAE-2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.i686

And the tablet is a serial:
Wacom Ultrapad A5 UD-0608-R

I'm completely out of any more places to look for information regarding this, and I would greatly appreciate if anybody had the slightest pointer or idea on where to look for more info.

Cheers.

No luck. It doesn't seem to care much about any parameters in the xorg.conf file, same error every time. So I've run out of ideas.

Hi velibor,

I have a serial tablet ( Intuos GD-0912-R ) and got the same error.

Did you try to remove the option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" ?
It works for me ( in combination with rpm 'linuxwacom-0.8.2.2-17.fc12.i686' ) !

i think it could also work for xorg-x11-drv-wacom-0.10.4-1.fc12.i686

Cheers,
Jack
