How can I get a new version of a obsolete package?

There are some obsolete packages in Fedora 18 and I requested the mantainers to upgrade them (examples: xboard and fotoxx), but they didn't do anything.

You could compile it yourself.

I have been hopig xboard would get updated for some time now. It's way out of date and had some issues for me in F17.

I just removed it at the time since I didn't have much spare time. I ws going to grab the spec file and see about building my own rpm with the updated source, but never did go back to it.
