cant input into java applet firefox

hello,

ive recently installed java and linked the plugin for firefox.

i can run java applets that do not require input.

the problems i have begin when i try to enter values into any fields of the java applet. i type, nothing is displayed. its like the applet wont accept input from my kb. i can tab to the field i want to type in, but no values appear.

also, in dropboxes with text in the java applets, the text appears to be encoded and appears as rectangles.

have any of you seen a similiar problem. if so, id be interested to hear about it.

thanks,

e-

Hello,

Try delete following files in ~/.mozilla/firefox directory:

- pluginreg.dat
- profiles.ini

Well, I suggested to delete only those two files - pluginreg.dat and profiles.ini

Is your Java applet issue resolved now?

Your bookmarks should be located in ~/.mozilla/firefox/XXXX.default directory.

remove java reinstall it and create a link to this dir

/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins <-- BTW creating the link here means you don't have to do it again whe firefox gets updated.

instead of the /usr/lib/firefox<version>/plugins

if you look in your home folder under .mozilla/firefox there should be a folder named default xxx

if you look in there your bookmarks should be there. I just made a backup in case i mess it up again.

Unhappy Insalling Java

I can not install java. Here is what I got so far:
[root@linspirelive ~]# cd /usr/
[root@linspirelive usr]# chmod a+x jre-1_5_0_02-linux-i586-rpm-1.bin
[root@linspirelive usr]# ./jre-1_5_0_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin
bash: ./jre-1_5_0_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin: Permission denied
[root@linspirelive usr]# ./jre-1_5_0-linux-i586-rpm.bin

Permission denied? What the heck is that? I was in root. Anyway please help.

Oh and before you ask. That linspirelive is from when I put one of there cd's in my drive and ran it. Now everything I do is from a linspirelive network.
