Wine and Office failure

I am trying to uninstall Office 2007 because it didn't install properly at all, and plus I not have decided to get of the microsoft grid completely.

When I try to uninstall Office 2007 with Wine Software, it says uninstall failed?

Re: Wine and Office failure

Well, not everything works exactly as it should in Wine. Maybe this is another example of that. Or, maybe somebody else will know something about this particular one. Anyway, do you have a lot of stuff installed in Wine? If not, then just delete the ~/.wine folder and then run something (say, winecfg or wine regedit) to create a new one. Then start again.

If you do have a lot of work invested in the current .wine folder, then wait for someone to come along here who might know what to do about your current situation and save the .wine folder. I wish I did. But I don't. Sorry.

P.S.: For next time, consider copying your ~/.wine folder before trying a new app in Wine. If things go badly, you can delete the .wine folder and copy the backed up folder back in there and continue on as if nothing happened.

hmmm did not think to do that. I tried installing 2007 through playonlinux. Usually I get it to work right off the bat with no issues. Well Fedora 17 is still in it's early stages, besides this and virtualbox not working period; not bad.

Delete that garbage. Use Libreoffice instead. Superior in every way and is able to open/create/write to microsh** files.

Just because something is free, doesn't make it bad.
And just because something is retardedly expensive, doesn't make it good.

Re: Wine and Office failure

I totally agree with you, especially since I figured out how to make libre's default .docx compatible with 2010. The reason why I was trying to install it was because of Excel. I have noticed that the when making links from excel and you try to use them inside the libre office it fails, this vise versa.

I do use libre office more, trying to stay off the microsoft grid completely. Just because.

Re: Wine and Office failure

Back when I still used office products, I would install it with playonlinux. I'm good without it but when it comes to office its the bees knees. I highly recommend trying Libre Office. Does everything Office does and their template data base is starting to get rather big, I do recommend changing the default extension for writer to .docx (So it can be read on any PC or Mac, for the non Linux user).
