Fedora and Arch linux dual boot

Hi everyone!!!!!

I would like to install Arch Linux along with Fedora17. Have to install both from scratch. My system has a 750gb hd. I just wanted to know what will be the best way to partition my disk.
Is it OK if I have a common home partition?

Thanks in advance

Yes, this is ok. But I recommend to use different user names, so that every user has a seperate folder in /home. Than there are no collisions between config files.

And, of course, you must not format the /home partition and make a backup before any action.

The one thing that may bite you is that security labels on /home will not be maintained between the two systems. This is not a major problem, but sometimes does require /home to have the labels restored (restorecon -R /home should do the trick) before everything works right. The restorecon may take a while if there are lots of files.

What I did is that I created separate root and home partition for both the installations and a common data partition. Now the problem is that its a readonly partition for all users except my account.

what can I do to change it. Its in vfat format.....

You may need to change the format.

vfat really doesn't support permissions or ownership, so it's pretty much whoever mounts it, owns it. Unless you are sharing the partition with a Windows machine, I would recommend using a linux filesystem on the partition.
