Fresh install desktop issues
Im not sure whats wrong with fedora 17 for me and this is also happening on my live cd, when i boot into fedora there are no icons no nothing only the wallpaper and i can only see the cursor if i bring it far to the right, can anybody help me on this?

My guess is that you are stumped by GNOME shell.
By default, desktop usage is disabled in GNOME 3.x. For a quick intro to GNOME shell, see this cheat sheet - https://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell/CheatSheet
Also, I think you mean far to the top left - near the activities button to see the icons, open windows, etc.
Hope this helps to get started ...

i dont see anything there, like i said, theres nothing, ive used gnome on my ubuntu system but there is absolutely nothing on fedora

well i just checked a few things with linuxquestions.org, it seems that the os thinks the screen is much bigger than it really is:

i checked and sure enough it is, i found activities off screen how do i fix this? and i cant really screenshot since i cant access anything on fedora

Well, try this. ALT+F2 --> type "gnome-control-center" in that box. In my experience, the dialog box should appear in the center of the screen. So, typing might be convenient. When the control center opens, you can choose display and change the resolution - potentially ...
See if this works .. If not, we will see further.
