Post F16 - Problems with VirtualBox

Hi at all,

first of all.. I´ll try my very best to describe the problem and i´m not a native english speaker.

I´m using F16 (x64) with the latest kernel. I´ve installed the latest version of virtualbox. My guestsystem is windows 7 (x64). Everything works fine, except the usb support

I want to sync my iphone with this windows installation. At the device manager the yellow exclamation point is shown which means there are no (correct) drivers for my iphone. And before you ask - yes, the latest itunes (x64) is installed. I also get the error code 10.

After unplugging my iphone.. The yellow exclamation point disappears and the device manager says everything works fine and the latest drivers are installed

Virtualbox also recognizes the iphone so i´m able to choose it at the usb devices. Only windows makes problems. I´ve also tried to install the drivers manually at the device manager. But i can only choose *.inf files. On the apple support page are *.dll´s shown (which i have) but i can´t choose them.

Can you help me saving this problem?

Thx a lot

Re: F16 - Problems with VirtualBox

Hi, I have no experience with IPhone but I got my Galaxy working with VBox and Win 7.

Did you install the VBox extension pack? You need it for USB support.
Did you add you user to the vbirtualbox group in Fedora? root $ usermod -a -G vboxusers >your-user-name>

With Win7 shut down plug in your phone and enter the settings of this virtual machine. Go to USB and add your device.

Could you tell me the package name? I´ve installed the guest-package. Is this the package you talking about?

Re: F16 - Problems with VirtualBox

The extension pack is only needed for usb2 support.
Adding yourself to that group should be enough for usb pass through (and login again).
although it enables you to pass through its file systems, it isn't the same as raw access, have you looked for information on the Virtual Box site/forum whether syncing your I-stuff is possible at all?

If that is not the case then you could try KVM, which does a better job in that area from my experience.

Re: F16 - Problems with VirtualBox

If all else fails, try running iTunes in Wine.

appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1347

If you want to install Wine if you don't already have it, type
Code:
su -c yum install wine
I hope I could help.

Thx a lot for your replies and hints.

Problem is solved after installing the extension pack. Everything works fine. The extension pack has been overlooked by me
