I tried to report a bug with VLC player.
Here is the log:
Code:
--- Running report_uReport ---
(exited with 0)
--- Running analyze_CCpp ---
Ok to upload core dump? (It may contain sensitive data). If your answer is 'No', a stack trace will be generated locally. (It may download a huge amount of data). 'YES'
Querying server settings
Retrace server is unable to process package 'vlc-core-2.0.4-1.fc17.i686'.
Is it a part of official Fedora release 17 (Beefy Miracle) repositories?
Unknown package sent to Retrace server.
Do you want to generate a stack trace localy? (It may download a huge amount of data but reporting can't continue without stack trace). 'YES'
Analyzing coredump 'coredump'
All debuginfo files are available
Generating backtrace
Backtrace is generated and saved, 18383 bytes
--- Running collect_Smolt ---

--- Running collect_xsession_errors ---

--- Running report_Bugzilla ---
Logging into Bugzilla at https://bugzilla.redhat.com
Checking for duplicates
Creating a new bug
fatal: RPC failed at server. There is no component named 'vlc' in the 'Fedora' product.

Later edit: sorry, I just noticed that I posted the topic in the wrong section. Maybe a mod or admin could move it ... Thank you.

Re: bug trying to report a bug...
Hello
1) FedoraForum is in no way related with fedoraproject.org.
2) VLC is not FOSS, therefor not in the repos, so its not supported (bugfixed) by Fedora
3) Bug reporting for packages from fedora repos should be done on http://bugzilla.redhat.com
4) To report bugfixes of packages other than the fedora repos, report to the related package maintainer or repo provider (see code block)
5) Troubleshoot questions however, are welcome on the forum
Code:
yum info PACKAGENAME

Re: bug trying to report a bug...
Cosmin, I believe you misunderstood sea above.
While VLC is not FOSS (VLC itself is, but some of the codecs it uses aren't)and not supported by Fedora, it can be and is supported in these forums. As sea mentioned above, fedoraforum.org isn't related to fedoraproject.org. This is a community supported help forum for things related to Fedora, and since it appears you are trying to get VLC running on Fedora, then your question is more than welcome in here.
I am going to move this into the proper sub-forum, though. This one is for issues installing Fedora itself, and you will probably get more responses over in the software sub-forum.
Moving to proper sub-forum
Edit:
I looked closer at what you posted above, and that output would be normal for trying to report a non-Fedora package to Fedora.
If you post the actual error you receive from VLC, possibly someone in here could help you with it.

Re: bug trying to report a bug...
The OP requested that the whole thread be deleted, however let's simply close instead. On second thought, that message might have been a bit earlier, so we'll reopen the thread and see if the OP's interested in keeping it open or not.

Re: bug trying to report a bug...
Looking over the thread, I'm not sure if it's really clear to anyone not used to the whole confusing forums vs. bugzilla thing.
To the OP (Original Poster), it works like this.
If you are willing to take the time and effort to report a bug, which will often mean being willing to test and get back to whoever packaged the program, then you would use the link that sonoran gave you, the rpmfusion one. That's because they are the ones who package VLC for Fedora. For them to help, though, they might need more information and ask you to do things, which is why I say if you are willing to take the time and effort.
This forum is primarily made up of users helping users. So, if, as opposed to reporting a bug, you just want to figure out why something doesn't work, and see if there's a workaround, this is a good place to ask. You don't always get answers--sometimes, it's a problem that no one else has faced, and some folks will say, file a bug, or read the manual, but usually, even if someone posts a response like that, someone else will try to help if they can.
