LiveCD won't boot

Hi,

I'm trying to install Fedora 12 on my new Laptop and i'm having troubles with booting from CD.
my Laptop is HP probook 4310s.
I already installed windows 7 on it on a NTFS partition.
Now I want to install Fedora 12 on a second not yet used partition.
I tried both the liveCD option and the installation DVD option, and with both of them i couldn't get the laptop to boot from the CD.
(offcourse i already double checked that the CD is the first boot option at the BIOS settings)

can anyone help me?

thanks,
Dvir

p.s.
I try to install a 32bit version of fedora, although my laptop is 64bit.

Hello schdvir,

How far along in the booting process do those disks get? Since to you didn't mention that, I have to ask how did you create the disks? Don't be insulted, but it's very common for people to burn the ISO file directly to disk as a data file instead of choosing the option in the burning software that burns the ISO file as an image.

P.S.:

That wouldn't matter. The 32-bit version runs just fine on 64-bit hardware.

I believe I created the disks properly. Just used "burn the image file to a CD" or something like that on windows 7.

when I just try to boot the laptop when the CD is in the disk drive, nothing happens (except, noises from the disk drive). I just see the HP boot screen.
Then I tried to boot without the CD and enter the boot menu, I chose "boot from CD" and entered the CD.
Then, I got the fedora screen with 10 seconds counter, after the counter ended, the laptop restarted and I was back at the beginning when nothing happened.

Thanks for your help,
Dvir

If you see the Fedora boot screen hit enter. Then you should see a menu and the second topic from above (if I remember correctly) should read "Boot and verify". This verifies if the CD is burned correctly.

a similar problem

I have been having a similar issue trying to install fedora 11 on an MSI CX 700 laptop. The live disc hangs after the initial screen. After the booting in ten seconds notice the screen goes black and I get a blinking cursor. The plain install disc will not work either. The install disc hangs at "protocol family 17" and will not load the install environment. The media for both the live CD and the install CD both work, I tested them on my desktop. Any help about what to try next would be appropriated.
