ping http etc

Morning

We are having to replace a firewall and need to run test before and after. for some stuff a simple ping will do but for a lot of the rules they allow access to http, ftp, ssh etc. Does anyone know of a way to script a set of tests that will test access to port 80 one for port 21 etc and take the ip/url from a list and log the output to a file.
any ideas

Lee

you could also use nessus (it uses nmap) but it tells you what vulnerabilities are present in the installed version
