Puppy attacked by bulldog
The puppy in question being that well-known light and fast distro. On Sunday evening I clicked on my bookmark for the Puppy home page and.... I won't describe what I saw, as this is a family forum after all, but Puppy had been cyber-vandalised. Fortunately Puppy is spread over several independent servers, so the forum and ISO hosts weren't affected. From what I've gathered from the forum the attack seems to have been perpetrated by one of those groups who delight in being a PITA., from the security angle the exploit appears to have taken place as the Puppy team were in the process of changing hosts. Those concerned with that side of things may be able to glean more details from the thread in the ' Truly off-topic ' section of the Puppy forum. For the rest of you, here's how Distrowatch reported it.

Hey - thanks for the info! I like Puppy and it is very much a work tool at work for me, although I never visit their site - perhaps I should!.

puppylinux.com is active and unhacked, it is only puppylinux.org that got hit.
Hey Bert, I hit the hacked puppylinux.org about 6 times on my Vista computer and I am still here.
BTW, just checked and they are back up now.

Thanks for this, John!
A rest somewhat mollified by the knowledge that there is a special place reserved in the septic tank of hades for those who abuse puppies, small children, mothers -- and the works of generous and helpful men. <.. ..>
May such hackers reside there -- soon and permanently.

Actually, there's no evidence the hack placed any malware on the site. It may have been limited to defacing. Hardly news.
But hey, if you think it's a glorious achievement that Vista's TCP/IP stack and HTML rendering worked as intended, then fine, go and celebrate.

Somehow, I can just envision you and Steve (Barmy) Ballmer, drunk as ten men, shoulder-to-shoulder, wearing party hats and singing old country-and-western songs badly out of tune ....
(Darn, I hope your Christmas bonus is worth it this year).

Please take this to the appropriate Social Group.
And while I'm geared up for a good snit, and warming to the subject ... just what the 'eck is wrong with singing old country and western songs off key. <.. ..>
