How do I get HP L2105tm touchscreen to work

I have FC 17 running. and the touch screen function of the monitor does not work.
the HP site says there is no driver.

However,
% lsusb
shows the L2105tm coming in as a
QUANTA TouchScreen

% grep QUANTA /var/log/Xorg.0.log
shows it as /dev/input/mouse1

The other 3button mouse comes in as /dev/input/mouse0

%xinput
shows both mice but the touchscreen does not work.

% xinput test ...
works for the mouse, but no joy with the touchscreen.

Any ideas on how to get this to work?

Do I need a /etc/udev/rules.d/99thingie.conf file?

Do I need a rule in /etc/X11/xconf.d/45colt.conf file with
a new class or device?

% lsmod
shows hid_multitouch coming in also.
I guess I should check the Ubuntu forums, although someone claimed it worked
right away, so I tried the Ubuntu CD and it did not work there either.

Thanks for any advice.

Re: How do I get HP L2105tm touchscreen to work

You may have gotten hit with a regression that hit back in April, I believe.

There was a workaround shown in the bug report, you can try it and see if it works around your issue.

Quote:
In X11 open a terminal. su to root. run "rmmod hid-multitouch;modprobe hid-multitouch" twice.
And yes, this needs to be done after every reboot.
Not a great solution but better than nothing.
Hope it works for you as well.

Re: How do I get HP L2105tm touchscreen to work

Thanks for the input, but I did the
% rmmod hid-multitouch;modprobe hid-multitouch

twice and no luck there. I even tried staggering the commands
for a second or two, and still nothing. I even got frisky and
did it four times in a row.

Still nothing.
the
% xinput test "Quanta TouchScreen"
has no result and should really respond when I take the
stylus or my finger and rub it against the touch screen.

Re: How do I get HP L2105tm touchscreen to work

It should.

There was a regression in the kernel modules back in April that messed up some of the touchscreens, but it supposedly was fixed. (appears to be fixed in the 3.6 kernel that F18 has)

Looking around, about the only thing I have seen that fixes it is to go back to a kernel that has the earlier wacom module or build the earlier wacom module for the current kernel.

From what I found, these kernel seems to work correctly.

Re: How do I get HP L2105tm touchscreen to work

You may need more than just the kernel package if you have packages like the extra modules, etc... installed.

Here is a link to the list of packages that go with that kernel, grab the ones you need.

http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//p...4.fc17/x86_64/

Oh, what I linked to is the 64 bit kernel.

if you need 32 bit, it's here:

http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/pa...6/4.fc17/i686/

and the docs package if you have that installed:

http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/pa...4.fc17/noarch/

Re: How do I get HP L2105tm touchscreen to work

You are saying to fall back to the
kernel-3.4.6-4.fc17
because the current one lost support?

Should I just download that kernel, get the /boot/config file
and grab the latest kernel and do a
rpmbuild --rebuild??
