Re: Disabled your Java yet?

Fortunately, I never use the java plugin. I have Java installed for a few pieces of software, but never use the browser plugin, I never had a need.

Re: Disabled your Java yet?

Oracle released the "patched" version just today.
Code:
BASH:~/-> java -version
java version "1.7.0_11"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_11-b21)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.6-b04, mixed mode)
My tarball install of firefox-18.0 still won't show the java plug-in though. Haven't tried in Windows yet.

Re: Disabled your Java yet?

PabloTwo, thanks for the news about the patch. I just installed the Oracle JDK 1.7.0_11, and I have Java applets enabled in Firefox 17.0.1.

I just tested it on some applets and it works fine. Woohoo! Take that, Homeland Security!

Re: Disabled your Java yet?

Looks like Oracle has released a fix, it says here.

The fault was being exploited to inject code into Windows machines that were fully updated and patched. Presumably, that's the motivation for the concern.

Re: Disabled your Java yet?

They were amazingly quick this time to patch it. I think somebody worked over the weekend.

Sales are threatened when the feds go out of their way to scare people about your software.

This got, and is getting, a lot of mainstream media play. Most people just hear "Java" and file away a memory that it's to be avoided.

Well, that didn't last long. Looks like they found 2 more vulnerabilities in java 7 update 11 and now it is on the Firefox block list again.

I heard that they'd failed to patch one of the known ones and in the meantime another one has been discovered

Re: Disabled your Java yet?

Saw the same news. I did get Oracle JRE to work on F18, but Fedora likes to default to the Opensource stuff. Needless to say, I wiped the Oracle out and installed the opensource product that comes with Fedora. Everything works nice except for the icedtea-plugin. Can't seem to get that up and running.

PS Never mind, got icedtea working. Not sure if it is also a bad java target.
