Whats the deal with KDE 4.8.5 weather wallpaper

I been poking around the wallpapers on KDE 4.8.5 and had same issue with 4.9 on F17. When I select weather wallpaper option I'm able to search and find my location but once I click Apply goes back to default wallpaper. I performed searches on this but haven't found any information. Is there a plugin I'm missing? I download wallpapers and used the Advance option to link to different weather settings but still a no-go. I would like to set this up seems pretty cool.

Thanks for any responses

Re: Whats the deal with KDE 4.8.5 weather wallpaper

Well, it might be frustrating to hear it, but it works for me...

As far as I know I have nothing except the KDE rpms from the Fedora repositories -- I'm using KDE 4.8.5 on Fedora 16. What I've done is: right-click on the desktop and choose "desktop settings"; set the "Wallpaper" drop-down to "Weather"; enter my nearest town in the location box; click "Search" and choose one of the options; click "OK" to close the entire form.

It does take a little while to update -- and the default only updates once every 30 minutes.

What might sometimes happen is that you get no appropriate string to describe the current conditions (something like "cloudy", or "sunny") back from the weather service. I've seen that occasionally. If you look at the "Advanced" options on the "Desktop settings" form, you should see at the top a drop-down for "Weather conditions" which should be set to whatever is the current state. Just occasionally for me, that pops up blank, meaning (I guess) that no suitable weather condition was reported by the weather service.

Its funny you mentioned that whenever I go to Advanced options its always blank, no matter what city I choose. I wonder if that is the issue no information is being returned from the weather service

For me, in the UK, the bbcukmet options seem more reliable than the others. Don't know whether that's an option for you.

Wettercom is the only option Im seeing for the US and it appears to be horrible. When I used gnome I was using Wallch wallpapers with the live satellite view and it became addicting
