Printer error. No print
Hello,
I search the net and didn't find anything.
I have the printer
Code:
03f0:3e17 Hewlett-Packard LaserJet P1006
Everytime I try to print, there's an error (with the red icon) saying Printer queue stopped (700). I delete it and reinstalled it and saw that it installed a ppd file.
Printer is working with ubuntu.
What can I do now?

Re: Printer error. No print
It worked with Ubuntu.
I go to Properties>Policies and I make it active but when I try to print, I get error.
The commang lpstat -t gives me:
Code:

device for Cups-PDF: cups-pdf:/
device for HP-LaserJet-P1006: hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_P1006?serial=AA1491G

printer HP-LaserJet-P1006 disabled since Σαβ 06 Μάρ 2010 08:01:53 μμ EET -

and when I enable it, I get:
Code:
scheduler is running
system default destination: HP-LaserJet-P1006
device for Cups-PDF: cups-pdf:/
device for HP-LaserJet-P1006: hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_P1006?serial=AA1491G

printer HP-LaserJet-P1006 is idle. enabled since Σαβ 06 Μάρ 2010 08:29:42 μμ EET
But I cannot print.
Did I stop any service? CUPS is running.

Re: Printer error. No print
Go to System-->Administration-->Printing then right click on the printer, then look to see if queue is enabled, if not check the box, enter password, then it should start printing. That is, if it is the printer queue that has stopped.

I wrote the command lpstat -t when I have it disabled and enabled. When the printer is enabled, I try to print and it always changes to disabled. Is there a possibility that my printer is not supported?

Re: Printer error. No print
Something is stopping your printer queue. If you used cups to set up you printer, and it was listed during setup, it's covered. I Googled the error when it first came up, and found folks on Ubuntu were having a similar problem. The error pointed towards a cups-hal file (sorry can't remember the exact name). Some on Ubuntu removed the file and it had solved their problem, I haven't tried that, wanting to look into it further. I have hplip installed, and when the error comes up, you can click on the diagnose button, it will let you dig a little further. It's annoying to have to re-enable the printer queue occasionally, but at least mine prints after I do that. Try installing hplip, if you haven't already, and see if that helps.

Re: Printer error. No print
Also make sure you have the hplip and hpijs packages installed, they're in the standard Fedora repositories
it might help:
REF:
Going to HP's support site and putting in Linux as the OS for drivers sent me here:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html
and I then checked if P1006 was supported by hplip and it is:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web...jet_p1006.html
I see they say this:
Quote:
Driver Plugin Information:
This printer REQUIRES a downloadable driver plug-in. Use hp-setup to install the printer, and to download and install the plug-in. In general, required driver plugins are required for printing support. Driver plug-ins are released under a proprietary (non-open) license and are not part of the HPLIP tarball release.
|
hp-setup is inside the hplip package

Re: Printer error. No print
Well, in Ubuntu I had a problem but in 9.04 I solved it and wrote this how to (although it's in Greek, I just erased the printer from printers and then sudo those 2 commands). It worked fine.
I found on the net something about foo2something drivers but in some users didn't work.
I downloaded the driver from HP but I'm trying to install it and I get an error. Now I face some problems with repositories. I think I have to solve this first and then try for the printer.
