Arrow yum install Problem In Fedora 17

HI All !

I have Installed Fedora 17 in CLI mode Only. Then I wanted To install MC and tried this command yum install mc and it appeared some case of errors,

error:

Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Error: Cannot retrieve metalink for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again

I tried to search solution in this forum but whatever i tried did't help me.

Then I add this list in there > cat /etc/hosts <

list:

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6
80.239.156.215 mirrors.fedoraproject.org
209.132.176.120 download.fedoraproject.org
209.132.176.120 mirrors.fedoraproject.org
192.150.18.37 linuxdownload.adobe.com
193.28.235.40 rpm.livna.org
193.28.235.60 download1.rpmfusion.org
213.129.242.84 mirrors.rpmfusion.org

after that, when i tried to instal mc in this command also >yum install mc < then I got the other error massage:

Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit

File contains no section headers.
file: file://///etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo, line: 1
'cat /etc/resolv.conf[fedora]\n'

Now What Should I Do?

Re: yum install Problem In Fedora 17

You dont need to add repo ip's to your /etc/hosts file.

Edit /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo back to its original state.
A yum repo doesnt work well with a resolv.conf..

Re: yum install Problem In Fedora 17

It appears you were editing your /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo file and accidently typed a command into it and saved it.

Post the entire contents of your /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo file

It should look something like this:

Code:
[fedora]
name=Fedora $releasever - $basearch
failovermethod=priority
#baseurl=http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/$releasever/Everything/$basearch/os/
mirrorlist=https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=fedora-$releasever&arch=$basearch
enabled=1
#metadata_expire=7d
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-$basearch

[fedora-debuginfo]
name=Fedora $releasever - $basearch - Debug
failovermethod=priority
#baseurl=http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/$releasever/Everything/$basearch/debug/
mirrorlist=https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=fedora-debug-$releasever&arch=$basearch
enabled=0
metadata_expire=7d
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-$basearch

[fedora-source]
name=Fedora $releasever - Source
failovermethod=priority
#baseurl=http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/$releasever/Everything/source/SRPMS/
mirrorlist=https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=fedora-source-$releasever&arch=$basearch
enabled=0
metadata_expire=7d
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-$basearch

Re: yum install Problem In Fedora 17

I think the problem is you're not connected to the internet when you're trying to use yum

Re: yum install Problem In Fedora 17

Fedora 17 doesn't seem to auto connect to the internet when you're got it in multi-user.target (which was called multi user or "init 3" in the old days). You said in post 1 you did the install in CLI (which is multi-user target) so that's why I was thinking it was a connection problem. You can use the text "nmcli" command to tell NetworkManager to connect.

nmcli is a confusing command that comes in multiple parts, I think you use the "con" object with the "'up" command
for this:

nmcli -{option} {object} {command} -->

(note that the "command" can be two parts like here either "up id" or "up uuid")
Quote:
nmcli con up id {name} | uuid {UUID}
where you find out the name or UUID from running:
Quote:
nmcli con list
using name is preferable as it's much less typing, now on my laptop I have a name of "attwifi" and a
UUID of 596be7a5-d792-4fca-8252-84c13d25913c:
Code:
nmcli con list
NAME                 UUID                                     TYPE                         TIMESTAMP-REAL
attwifi               596be7a5-d792-4fca-8252-84c13d25913c   802-11-wireless   Fri 07 Dec 2012 06:16:47 PM EST
If you have multiple connection types, the TYPE column tells you which are wired and which are wireless (wired == 802.3-ethernet and wireless == 802.11-wireless)
so bringing up the wireless would be for me:
Quote:
nmcli con up id attwifi
or
Quote:
nmcli con up uuid 596be7a5-d792-4fca-8252-84c13d25913c
