Installing Asante AL5410-G on Laptop

Hello All:

I am new to Linux and Fedora and am trying to install an Asante AL5410-G wireless pcmcia card. To try to install the card, I used the following youtube video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0Ist9aEKEg

It was quite helpful in helping with all of the steps neccessary, however, when I try to run the command at the end of the video (ifconfig wlan0 up), I receive the following error message:

wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

I' not sure where I went wrong, however the system does not seem to like something. If I run lspci, I receive the following (last line):

03:00.0 Network controller: Texas Instruments ACX111 54mbps Wireless Interface

and if I run lspci -n, the last line is

03:00.0 0280 104c:9066

So the lspci command is recognizing the card, however I can't get it to start up. If my laptop was running WinXP, the card would be blinking once detect. Now it is completely off.

Does anyone know what I should do? As stated I ran through all of the the above mentioned youtube vid, and everything seemed to go well until I ran the ifconfig wlan0 up command.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know there will be some (maybe most) who would say go buy another card, however I just installed linux on this laptop (Sony Vaio PCG-GR390) just to practice and do not really want to spend money on getting a new card.

Many thanks!

jocasio

There's a native linux driver for this chip. See ---> http://sourceforge.net/projects/acx100/

You can find the latest version and INSTALL instructions in the git repository.

Thank you for your reply. Can you please point me to the git repository with instructions? I am very new to this and coul not find it. I followed the link you provided and ended up on sourceforge page with instructions, but I think I really need hand holding on this.

Many thanks!

You start by clicking on the tab which says "Git" and then you'll find the INSTALL instructions here ---> http://sourceforge.net/p/acx100/acx-...a/tree/INSTALL

Thanks, I'm going to try it. Since I'm new to Linux, most of that looks like hieroglyphs.

If any one has a dumbed down version of the install, i.e, Step one: do this, step 2: do this, etc, please let me know. The other issue I'm having problems with is when it tells me to make sure something is set up without showing me how. As I do not know my way around Linux, I do not what's what.

Thanks,

jocasio
