gnome-screensaver Needs 21.1 MB of Memory?

Is it normal for gnome-screensaver to use 21.1 MB of memory? Seems a bit excessive unless it's doing a lot more than I expected.

I'll keep an eye on memory usage and bug it when I see it go up again. Today gnome-screensaver is only using 1.5 MB, so I don't know if it got fixed or it climbs over time.

Thanks for the reply,

it's worth remembering memory usage is a tricky thing to track, too. Some of that count may be shared libraries which other GNOME components are using; if so that memory wouldn't be freed even if gnome-screensaver wasn't running.

What's happening is every time I lock and unlock the screen, gnome-screensaver's heap goes up by 200-500 KB. After the total memory for gnome-screensaver hits around 21 MB, it stops growing. Is that a bug or related to shared libraries?

Thanks for the replies,

not entirely sure about that one. could be a leak, but then it'd be odd for it to stop flat at 21MB. it may be some kind of storage of history, but I'm not sure what history it'd be storing. you could ask a GNOME developer on IRC, I guess...
