Important software updates are available...

I upgraded from Fedora 15 to 17 with mostly no problems and it is working fine.

However, every now and again I get a notification that "Important software updates are available". When I click on the button to install them, it displays the list of updates and I can click "Install Updates". When I do this, it looks like it is installing the first one but then stops and tells me it failed to obtain authentication.

It never asked me for authentication!

Should I just do a yum update and ignore this mechanism?

What's the scoop?

Thanks,
D

I would do the yum update. I have no idea what gives this notification, but would guess that it's packagekit.

Re: Important software updates are available...

Also, both pam and PackageKit have been updated for Fedora 17 back in July, the yum update might also result in PackageKit working from that point on

OK - thanks --- just seems a bit bizarre that something like this would not have been noticed before.
