Ok,

I am now going to use dban and see what happens. Will keep you posted. Thanks.

Re: Fedora 16 does not boot

Ok,

I have just finished using dban 2.6.6 to erase my faulty HDD and it took me around 2 hrs with DoD Short method. Now I have installed Fedora 16 on this drive and posting this message using the same, but the Disk Utility program continues to show the error as discussed earlier. I was hoping that using dban will eventually get rid of all the bad sectors on the hard drive and it will be usable again, but now it looks like there is no cure left for me except buying a new one. Have I chosen the right method for erasure of data when using dban? There are a few other methods as well namely Quick Erase, RCMP TSSIT OPS 2, DoD 5220 22-m, Gutman Wipe and PRAG Stream. Please help me with this issue. Thanks.
