Re: software update icon in F20

Hi

GNOME Software automatically downloads updates in the background every week (except for security updates which are checked and downloaded every day) and you will be able to click on the "restart and install" updates option to install the updates.

Click on "updates" tab (third) in GNOME Software to see currently available updates. If you want more control, you can either use dconf-editor/ gettings or a different app like yumex.

You are probably talking about packagekit?
Gnome-software has replaced the fronted by default but you can still install it.

Re: software update icon in F20

note, the old gpk updater and the new Software/Shell updater work in fundamentally different ways: gpk runs an 'online update', i.e. it just updates everything while your system is running, while Software/Shell update stuff does 'offline updating' - it downloads available updates in the background and reboots to install them when ready (and you agree, of course).

I'd recommend picking one strategy and sticking with it, not mixing them. If you go with online updates you might want to poke about in dconf and disable as much of the 'offline update' stuff as you can, as it'll just take up bandwidth and space needlessly (probably not much, but a bit).
