Which brands of digital cameras have service manuals available?

Next time I buy a digital camera, I want to get one that has the service manual available, preferably as a PDF. Are there any camera manufacturers that make their service manuals available? (I don't insist that it be a free download but that would be nice.)

Hmm... AFAIK, Sony doesn't.

Of course, Sony insists on using their own proprietary MemoryStick technology instead of the practically industry-standard SD Card, and frequently you can find better price/feature hardware from other mfgs.

I believe most of all the makers of cameras post the service manual online in some format. The ones I have downloaded are PDF.

Glad you asked tashirosgt, google found http://www.mediafire.com/ offering a freebie repair manual for my digital camera, worth checking out if you're a software skinflint.

When I look at the Nikon and Olympus sites, I see "owners manuals" or "users manuals", but not service and repair manuals. Am I missing something?

Most service instructions are included in the owner's manual. Not sure about repair manuals.

The manufacturer of my camera only offers user manuals directly from their site, not repair manuals.
They would rather me use their repair centre if there was a problem i guess.
You'll just need to do a bit of googling for the repair manual PDF i imagine.

Re: Which brands of digital cameras have service manuals available?

I'm speaking of service/repair manuals in the sense of documents that tell you how to disassemble the camera, have circuit schematics etc. I found a repair manual online for my broken Nikon CoolPix 5700. It wasn't on the Nikon website. I haven't found anything for my Olympus C-700's (one working, one broken).

Not a repair manual but this parts diagram was found by switching the Olympus c-700 repair manual google search to images.
Buster in this forum discussion might have the repair manual.

Re: Which brands of digital cameras have service manuals available?

I would think most makers of cameras would want to keep those kind of service manuals a secret.

There are safety issues with camera repairs. If it has a condenser, this must be discharged prior to removing the covers.
