Dual Monitor 4:3 and 16:9

Hello

I'm new on the Linux Scene, i've installed Fedora 12 two days ago and since then I'm trying to figure out how to solve my problem on working with 2 monitors but with no success.

Let me try to explain my situation:

I got 2 monitors, one is widescreen and other is a normal screen, i've already put the 2 monitors work fine with TwinView in nvidia-settings but the problem is my second screen is a widescreen and the resolutions that Fedora gives me to that monitor non of them are wide resolutions.

I tried to change it manually on xorg.conf but with no success.

On nvidia-settings it detects my first screen name "BENQ" but the second one wich is the widescreen doesnt detect the model, only says "CRT-0" maybe because nvidia cant detect my widescreen model it's not giving me the wide resolutions.

My actual xorg.conf file:

The nvidia driver honors custom modelines in the Monitor Section of your xorg.conf. All you have to do is add some and they will appear in the resolution selection menu. There are online mode line calculators you can use to make them. Here is a sample from my xorg.conf:

ModeLine "1216x684_60" 66.05 1216 1248 1496 1528 684 698 705 719
ModeLine "1360x767_60" 84.37 1360 1392 1712 1744 767 782 790 806
ModeLine "1440x810_60" 95.28 1440 1472 1832 1864 810 826 834 851

I changed the xorg.conf the section "Monitor" to this:

Quote:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Unknown"
ModelName "CRT-0"
HorizSync 28.0 - 55.0
VertRefresh 43.0 - 72.0
Modeline "1440x900_60.00" 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932 -HSync +Vsync
EndSection
And this resolution already shows, but on BenQ monitor not on my widescreen monitor :X

---------- Post added at 01:42 PM CST ---------- Previous post was at 11:54 AM CST ----------

One question, my xorg.conf generated by nvidia-settings only create 1 "monitor" sectiom, maybe is that the problem?

I compare with many xorg.conf on the web and many people got 2 monitor section, i tried create one more manually but with no success.

Re: Dual Monitor 4:3 and 16:9

the path for the xorg.conf file is /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Fedora no longer creates this file by default so you may not have one, but you can create one if you don't have it.

Re: Dual Monitor 4:3 and 16:9

Thanks DBelton, this ole laptop also has a DVI port, I purchased a DVI to HMDI adapter and hooked it to the big screen, it worked great, my issue was the system would not detect the big screen so defaulted to the lowest common denominator, but out of the digital port it detected the TV as a Viewsonic and the model and gave me the options for ab out 7 resolutions, very fine. Evidently the SVGA port can not pass these values or the firmware in the TV is not set to pass the info through the PC DB15.

I know my issue was a little off the original topic, bu thanks much for the info. Yes I have learned to create config files if not there, it amazes me... At the work server toy, fast dell server, I loaded F15 only to not have eth0 eth1 etc... it worked but could not configure a static ip at all so I created the files, and aliased what the system saw as the name of then nic card and created those files... worked like a charm. This Linux is so much more concise than Windows it is an adjustment to realize that just creating the correct file with the proper parameters and the kernel performs accordingly. I am very happy with Linux... hopefully some of my issues will help others in the future.

Thank you guys! Scott
