Program installation

How can we install programs other than using the terminal. To be honest, I liked this system and I got used to it, but the problem is someone who wants to use Fedora but has no idea on how to use the terminal, so is there any other way for installing programs?

The GUI installers will only offer applications that are in the repositories. If you download an .rpm package you should, in theory, be able to right click on it and install it. I don't use this method at all but as I recall (I'm probably wrong) the method doesn't work too well. You should give it a try and see what happens. You're not going to hurt anything. At any rate, it's either the GUI or the command line. That's Linux.

Read man pages to understand any terminal command. Above all $ man yum and $ man rpm.

you could also try installing yumex, which is a GUI frontend for yum. much easier for a beginner to figure out than the command-line.

Sure you can use GUI

Just use the Add/Remove Software in System => Administration menu. You can also double-click on rpm files to install them if you have the on disk already - user will be prompted for root authentication a few times to confirm lack of GPG and that the package is not from official repostory. Same goes to intalling software directly from web browser - just click on the link to the RPM file and choose Open With: "Package Instaler" and then continues as you'd double-clicked the RPM.

I have used this many times so I'm pretty sure it works well (at least in Fedora >=10)

yumex is good though if you want the installation in GUI but for terminal maybe you can try using rpm command and yum command to install via terminal. Yum is limited to certain repo added in your system thus you may also include or install some repo first to expand your software selections.

adding repositories is super easy, and there are lots of tutorials that cover how to do this as closeby as a google search.

a list of some optional repositories: freshrpms.net, rpm.livna.org, and google and adobe both have repositories for their respective products.
