Linksys 54WG PCMCIA - Wifi Doesn't work

I have a Compaq Evo N610c wih 160gb and 1 gb ram.
I installed a Linksys 54G PCMCIA because the internat wifi card doesn't work.

The thing is that when I go to the network icon in the taskbar, the SSIDs do not appear.
I tried putting the networks SSIDs as a hidden network to connect, but I didn't connect.

Please tell me what should I check and I'll give you a fast feedback.

Welcome to the forum.

A lot of wireless cards only work with Fedora Linux after the installation of extra packages. Those are dependent on the actual chipset in your wireless card.

If you run the command:

/sbin/lspci

and copy and paste back the results. It should allow us to see just what your wireless devices are and perhaps work out a way to get them going.

I wouldn't expect your USB card to show up in that output. I assume you are no longer trying with the Linksys PCMCIA that is in the title of the thread as that doesn't show up either.

The good news is that your onboard wireless card is identified as:

and that is usually one of the easiest to get going.

Try this:

Download this file and put it into a directory somewhere:

http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/b...0.10.5.tar.bz2

Acquire full root rights over your machine with this command in a terminal window:

su -

That's a space and a minus sign after the su. It gives you full root rights over your machine rather than just root rights over your ordinary users environment without it.

Use the cd command to navigate into the directory where you downloaded the above file. Issue the command:

tar xjf broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2

That unpacks the file archive you downloaded and will create you a new directory where you are working called 'broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5'.

cd into that and then the 'driver' directory within that and use the command:

b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta_mimo.o

That cuts the required firmware for your card from the downloaded file and places it in the correct place for the b43 driver to find it.

Restart the machine and left clicking on the NetworkManager icon in the system tray of either Gnome or KDE should bring up a list of wireless access points to connect to.

Left click on one of those

problem solved, but the card I've installed with this commands was the PCMCIA, cause the onboard card is not working at all, so it is not teh one on the list

Now I can give back the USB wifi to my friend
