Folder Preview in Fedora.

Hi there,

I am new to Fedora. How do you set Fedora 17 to give you Folders preview?
Is there a specific theme for it?

Thanks.

Re: Folder Preview in Fedora.

KDE I presume?

You want file previews in Dolphin? If that's what you're asking....

- Click the crescent wrench in the top right corner of your Dolphin window.
- Click Configure Dolphin
- Click the 'General' tab (last one)
- Click the 'Previews' tab

And there you are, check the ones you want previews for.

If you're talking about Gnome..... I have no clue.

Re: Folder Preview in Fedora.

In XP, on the top of folder icons, there would be the images, to remind you what are in that folder.

I attached the screen with this message too. You may see it as the example.

Re: Folder Preview in Fedora.

The problem is "what image should be there?"

A directory can hold anything, even other directories. What image would be suitable for a directory that has text files, short videos, snapshots, html, and tex files?

One that stabs you in the face for being a disorganized @!$%ard.

But yes, the points stands, these preview icons are fairly arbitrary.

Apparently KDE's Dolphin file manager can do this, as described. If you're using the default install (i.e. GNOME's Nautilus file manager), there is no built-in support. However, file previews are handled by installable plug-ins, and this one might be what you're looking for: http://projects.flogisoft.com/cover-thumbnailer/. It claims to support Nautilus 3, so should be up-to-date with current versions. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be in the Fedora repositories, so you'll have to install it manually.

It isn't disorganized... just not obvious.

The collection of text files are a combination of specifications and preliminary documents for a program. The images are used by the application, or provide documentation diagrams... Some of the files are binary executables, while others can be draft publication documentation on the application (or part of the application).

Totally organized. But not necessarily obvious to nonprogrammers.

IC. It has to do with text files. Copy that.
