Re: Fedora 18 Hangs up on startup

Why don't you try installing the official NVidia drivers.

As much as I love the open source community, reverse engineered drivers (bumblebee and nouvear....) are simply never going to be bug free. The software engineers that design them need to guess at how to communicate with the hardware so they need to go under extensive testing to make sure that their drivers are correct for all cards. Since the project is likely run by a handful of people (with a handful of different setups) it is very likely that your specific card was never tested.

My suggestion is to file a bug report if the nvidia drivers work to bumblee or nouveau and continue using the nvidia until they fix it.

I logg in.. and all i can see is my desktop background and my mouse, not freezed tho, my mouse moves, but I have no panel, no menu, tty2 works properly, but I would like to know if anyone knows how to fix this. Re: Fedora 18 Hangs up on startup

I am having perhaps a similar problem on f19 alpha

Description: I boot the system from a poweroff state.
During the boot the raindrop fills up then the fedora f logo shows.

If the system will boot I can see disk activity until the password prompt appears

Otherwise the disk activity ceases sometime before the signon screen appears

Usually I can switch to another terminal with ctrl alt f2, etc.

signon to the terminal but I have to reboot for the system to come up
properly.

Since f19 is alpha, I am waiting for the beta at which time I will reinstall.

Re: Fedora 18 Hangs up on startup

@narfcisco, I'm sorry, I haven't used an Nvidia card in a while, when I did, I had more luck with the Nvidia drivers than anything else. There are also a couple other threads that suggest that nouveau/bumblebee are not ready for all cards just yet.

I would suggest starting a new thread and being very clear about your problem (as you have been).

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the OP did not even bother responding when we asked him for clarifications so there is no use continuing this thread.

Just thought of this, do you have anything "old" in your /home ??? or is home clean as well?

Re: Fedora 18 Hangs up on startup

ok.. before closing this thread.. I have to say "I THINK I FIXED IT".

I made a clean fedora install (Fedora 18 x64 KDE), then updated and rebooted, then I followed this post

http://dariofaggioli.wordpress.com/2...edora-optimus/

(careful, not all the links are alive, specially the bbswitch one, its no longer working, but if you google bbswitch rpm x64 you can download and install it manually)...

After that, i "updated" just in case, BBswitch and Bumblebee got updated!!!

rebooted, and now my desktop is working perfectly. Working fine so far. got the intel video card working on low loads, and if i do

Quote:
[n4rfcisco@ASUS ~]$ lspci|grep -i vga
returns this:
Quote:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 540M] (rev ff)
hopefully will be useful for somebody else.
