About pdfseparate utility usage !

Hi.

Recently I discovered build in pdf useful package "poopler-utils". It involve many tools (pdfimages, pdfseparate, pdfunite, d- pdfdetach, pdffont, pdfinfo, pdftocairo, pdftohtml, pdftoppm, pdftops, pdftotext).

I need only 3 of them: pdfimages, pdfseparate, & pdfunite.

I have no problem with pdfimages nor with pdfunite.

My problem is with pdfseparate:

in help page say about it's usage, the following:

$ pdfseparate [options] <PDF-sourcefile> <PDF-pattern-destfile>
-f <int> : first page to extract
-l <int> : last page to extract

What they mean by "PDF-pattern-destfile" ?? What I have to type exactly ?

I tried:

$ pdfseparate input.pdf new

I thought it like pdfimages when I just give at end of command the output file root name that tools just add to it numbers of individual output files. But with pdfseparate I got following error:

Syntax Error: 'new' must contain '%%d' if more than one page should be extracted

What does this mean ? What I have to enter ?

---------------------------------

By the way, when said that "-f <int>" mean 1st page to extract, "-l <int>" last page to extract, does this mean that I can use it to extract selected page or range of pages like:

$ pdfseparate 5 input.pdf .....

or

$ pdfseparate 7-17 input.pdf .......

or

$ pdfseparate 5, 10-23, 50 input.pdf .......

Best.

Re: About pdfseparate utility usage !

The following will extract page number 8 from the input file, which is this case is: u3a2017.pdf
Code:

pdfseparate -f 8 u3a2017.pdf u3a2017-%d.pdf
The extracted file will be named: u3a2017-8.pdf

The following will extract all pages to a file each:
Code:
pdfseparate u3a2017.pdf u3a2017-%d.pdf
The extracted files will be called: u3a2017-1.pdf (for page one), u3a2017-2.pdf (for page 2) etc.

Hmm, my old version of pdfshuffler on F24 works OK - maybe you should downgrade one or two versions.

Alas, I fell victim to the fact that the pdf file I was using only had 8 pages. The following should get you a single page which in this case is just page 6:
Quote:
pdfseparate -f 6 -l 6 u3a2017.pdf u3a2017-%d.pdf

It is O.K

pdfseparate can extract all pages, or single page, or range of pages from x - y , BUT not able to extract some or many pages in the form of 5,8,14,29.
