I dont want to roll back to fedora 9 or 10 because of this issue. if I cant getting running then no more vmware

Those errors go away if you export LANG=C before running the installer, tulindo posted that fix above

Due to the excessivley high CPU utilization, VM's hanging and general lack of support for 2.6.29 kernels (F11)... I've gone to VirtualBox OSE. I know it's not really an answer to the issues, but it's a very good workaround for me.

This is the first time I've used it and am very surprised at it's ease of use, setup and speed!

    still no joy

using the "export LANG=C" fixes all the errors with the rpm install but the fix it script still not working

do I have the wrong script (vmware-6.5.2-modules-2.6.29-fix.sh)

    I get these errors:

    ./vmware-6.5.2-modules-2.6.29-fix.sh

Found tar file for vmmon-temp module

    Untarring vmnet.tar
    Untarring vmmon-temp.tar
Sorry, vmmon-temp.tar tarball failed to extract the directory vmmon-temp-only

the script is untaring vmmon-temp.tar but this tar file creates a directory vmmon-only not vmmon-temp-only. seems like an buggy script to me.

The script is not buggy, it is intended to run on a clean install.
All those vm*-temp don't belong to the standard install, maybe you tried another patch before this.

If the tars without the -temp suffix are the original ones you can simply remove the wrong tars from the modules dir an retry to patch.
    Code:
    cd /home/tranquility/software-unix/stuv/vmware/fedora-core11-kernal-fix/
    mkdir backup-temp
    mv /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/vm*-temp.tar backup-temp/
    ./vmware-6.5.2-modules-2.6.29-fix.sh

You must restore from this backup directory:
    /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source-backup

some problem with a define MSC_VER I am doing this on fedora not windows, not sure what else is wrong may be missing some thing.
