    Excellent suggestion, raul_chirea.

    Everything looks great now.

I concurr, last time I tried GoogleEarth the fonts were all messed up and I couldn't read the height etc. in the status bar. I trashed those supplied libs and so far, so good.

    Thanks!

This seems to be the answer mine is perfect now.

In the Google-Earth dir rename libQt*.so.4 libraries, in the google-earth installation dir, to libQt*.so.4.orig ("*" means any string).

    That did it for me.
    Thanks!

Re: Google Earth's Fonts Looking Bad

Sorry about resurrecting an old thread, but under Fedora 13, the last fix suggestion above, by raul fixed the fonts for me. none of the rest did.

Re: Google Earth's Fonts Looking Bad

Just checking in to this thread again as I'm also having problems with Google Earth fonts on Fedora 13 (32-bit KDE Spin).

Raul's fix always worked fine for me too on Fedora 11 and 12, however with Fedora 13 its not working any more. Once I've done the fix, Google Earth simply fails to start. Running it in terminal and checking out the error log doesn't offer any clues, apart from from saying it crashed with signal 11 and that this is probably due to a bug in the Google Earth program.

I've always installed Google Earth directly from the Google repos's, but tried purging it from my system and re-installing using Dangermouse's "Autoten" utility (which installs exactly the same version), but still have the same problem.

Re: Google Earth's Fonts Looking Bad

    I'm having GoogleEarth font problems.

The fonts used on the google earth view page are fine.

but the fonts used in google earths menu are almost unreadable.

I've played with qt-config.x86_64 and am not sure what font family to select. I've changed a few but Google Earths system (menu) fonts are still the same old 1960's typewriter type face with large spacing. Very hard to read.

    Running:

    Google Earth 6.0.3.2197
    Build Date 5/13/2011
    Build Time 5:16:07 pm
    Renderer OpenGL
    Operating System Linux (3.1.2.0)
    Video Driver NVIDIA Corporation
    Max Texture Size 8192x8192
    Server kh.google.com

Not sure what else to try.
    Any suggestions.

Just install version 5.2, or install version 5.2 and then upgrade?

I also had terrible fonts but after installing the suggested fonts - still the same BUT then I RESTARTED the Notebook - all fine. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 Oneric.

Unhappy Re: Google Earth's Fonts Looking Bad

I installed msttcorefonts, then replaced the libQt*.so.4 libraries with the system ones, but font rendering in Google Earth 6.2 is still unbearable...

    Any suggestions?
