Hi!
Today, I installed FC6 on my IBM T30, having an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 GPU.
When I activate the Desktop Effects, this is the result:
![]()
More information:
dmesg
lspci -v
Xorg.0.log
xorg.conf
Any hints how to fix this?
Regards,
Chol

wow very similiar to my error on my Mobility 9000, hope we get some useful responses![]()
Don't bother with desktop-effects yet, ati cards with the open-source drivers are not working with the compiz that comes with fc6. I'm having the same problem with the same card on my A31.
I have a T30 and I have EXACTLY the same type of view when I turn on the effects...It seems the resolution is not correctly set or something like that
I have been seraching but have not found any remedy yet...maybe it will never work.
When the effects are turned on the performance of the wobly windows and the app switcher etc seems very good. Smooth animations etc.
Pitty :S
Will keep looking though.
Post if you find anything please...
Today I installed Ubuntu 6.10 ("Edgy Eft"). Following this tutorial, I got a working AIGLX + Beryl.
Hi Chol, I tried Edgy/AIGLX+Beryl as you suggested, and it works. However, with maximized windows the title bars disappear. Did you notice and have you found a fix? Almost there!
Thanks Aka5ha
I also have this problem and didn't find a fix yet.
The Problem is I don't like Ubuntu that much and would realy like to stick with Fedora caus it rulezand I've been with redhat now since 6.3

For the T30 w/ ubuntu 6.10+AIGLX/Beryl, I have tried toggling every setting available on/off and it does not fix the missing title bar when maximized problem. If anyone has information leading to success for any distro/xgl/aiglx on the radeon mobility 7500, your post would be appreciated! Thank you.
Just to chime in, I am running FC6 on a T30 and am having the same issue. My wife has a T41 running FC6 and it works very well on her system. At least we have not had an issue on her system yet.
I am glad I am not the only one.
Is there a Beryl for FRC6? Maybe that works...
I have tried compiling the free drivers from the dri.freedesktop.org and they work a lot better than the one that we have in FC6 (glxgears from 200fps to about 1400fps)
But on the down side when I try to activate the desktop-effects (compiz) It tries and ends with an error saying (desktop effects could not be enabled) But since they don't work anyway I think I will stick this driver for now
Sadly there still does not seem to be a fixpity....
Cheers
Hi, I just wanted to report my recent activity.
I tried the howto for compiz + aiglx on edgy on the gandalfn blog:
http://gandalfn.wordpress.com/howto/...aiglx-on-edgy/
And it did not work. The 3D effects just never start. This was on the IBM T30 w/ubuntu 6.10.
Using Beryl, everything works wonderfully except that the title bars disappear on maximinzed windows, so I imagine there must be a way for this to ultimately work.
If anyone makes any progress, please let us know! Thanks, Akasha
Hi all,
Well I just tried to install and use Beryl under FC6 using this tutorial here: http://www.fedorawiki.de/index.php/Beryl
I know it's in German but I yould follow it fine and I think its pretty straight forward. (install repo using wget and do a yum install beryl etc.)
The install worked fine but then starting beryl does not seem to work...maybe its my drivers etc. Maybe someone else has some time to try it. It does not damage anything as far as I can tell.
When the install is done just use beryl-manager to try and start beryl if things go wrong you can restart X with "CTRL"+"ALT"+"BACKSPACE" and your back to normal.
Maybe at least someone else can have some cool effects on their T30![]()
Hello All,
I would like to report success for aiglx on T30. I know I reported in my 11/2 post that this did not work, but over the weekend I did this twice and it works:
Fresh install of Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy on the T30. Then follow this AIGLX/Compiz howto:
http://gandalfn.wordpress.com/howto/...aiglx-on-edgy/
At the end of the howto when you type: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
the screen will go black and that's it.
BUT
When you hard restart the machine, go and launch the Compiz control center, enable GL desktop, and then everything works beautifully.
For icing on the cake I installed VLC with video out option: X11 video and everythings works very well. It is fast, no visual artifacts, and I could not be more pleased with AIGLX+Compiz on the T30 with 16Mb Radeon Mobility 7500.
Now, since I am a relative Linux n00b, can anyone tell me how I can make a disk image of this setup, so I can go back to it any time, in the event I mess up my system?
Thanks again for the comments and support of the whole Linux community!
adding this:
Option "AGPSize" "16"
to the "Device" section of my xorg.conf was the key to fixing this problem for me on the same video card
